Royal Mail now has 7,000 electric vans. This makes it the biggest electric van delivery company in the UK. These vans do not make smoke or pollution. That is better for the air and the planet.
Where Was the 7,000th Van Added?
The 7,000th van started work at a place called South Lambeth in London. This place already has 70 electric vans. The van was shown to everyone by Lilian Greenwood, a government leader. She said Royal Mail is doing a great job to help the planet.
A Big Plan That Started Small
Royal Mail got its first 100 electric vans in 2017. Since then, they kept getting more every year. Now, about one out of every four delivery places uses electric vans. The vans are charged at Royal Mail’s own stations. These stations use 100% green energy.
More Electric Vans Are Coming
Royal Mail is not stopping. They will soon get 1,800 more electric vans. Many of these vans will be made in the UK, at a place called Ellesmere Port. The new vans will come in different sizes for different jobs.
Royal Mail is also testing big electric trucks. These trucks can carry a lot and don’t make smoke. The test is being paid for with help from the government.
A Big Goal: Help the Earth
Royal Mail wants to cut its pollution in half by 2030. It wants to be at net-zero by 2040. That means it won’t make more pollution than it removes. In the last few years, Royal Mail has already cut some pollution. Now, it has the cleanest parcel delivery in the UK.
Why This Matters
Electric vans are quiet, clean, and better for the planet. Royal Mail’s plan helps post workers, customers, and the Earth. As Royal Mail boss Alistair Cochrane said, “We are doing big things to help the planet.”
In short:
- Royal Mail has 7,000 electric vans.
- More are coming soon.
- They help the air stay clean.
- Royal Mail wants zero pollution by 2040.
- It has the greenest delivery in the UK.
